Listen up, if you want to stereotype black people, all you need to do is tune into MTV. Or maybe Kanye West. I am so sick and tired about people claiming how movie characters "stereotype" certain racial minorities, blah blah blah. First we had to listen to morons talk about how Jar Jar Binks stereotypes racial minorities and how "Star wars was putting down the common man."
Let me break it down to you. We don't need Transformers or any other movie to stereotype anyone. It's already being done in social media, TV, magazines, EVERYTHING. The Transformers characters, accused of stereotyping black people by using ebonics and "slang talk," were modeled after an alien race that came to Earth and learned our culture to learn how to communicate.
The concept of having "jive-talking aliens" was a good laugh in theaters, and that's all it was meant to be. If Transformers "stereotypes" anyone, it's because Transformers is just reinforcing a common theme that has been happening in popular media over the last 20 years. And that is the language or slang talk you see in the movie - hey, if the aliens learned it from us, how can they be making fun of us?
If we didn't talk like that, neither would the aliens. If you want people to stop talking like they're ghetto trash, crawled up out of the woodwork, then do something about how girls are allowed to dress like whores at age 12, and how someone like Brittany spears can encourage them to dress like whores by listening to her music and watching her music videos. Monkey see, monkey do, remember? Then we say that Brittany is okay when we go buy the record for the kids. Did you ever listen to Brittany's songs? Most of her new songs have PERVERTED themes. Her music videos have her looking like a hooker strutting up and down the pole!
If you want people to stop talking like they belong in the zoo, get rid of popular media icons that do NOTHING for the problem. Rappers for example reinforce the stereotype that is already there. If you are black and don't want to be called the N word why would you allow a "rapper" to go on the air and talk about people using this word in such derogatory "music?" Did blacks not work to get this word elminated over the last 100 years? Then why is it perfectly acceptable to let Kanye West, or Young Buck or any other aspiring musician, drop the word day and night?
Bob Marley is one thing but does anyone look up Kanye's lyrics? Here is some lyrics from one of his popular songs. This one is called Gold Digger. It's about a girl who is a "gold digger."
She take my money, well I'm in need
Yeah she's a triflin' friend indeed
Oh she's a gold digger way over time
That digs on me
[Chorus:]
(She steal me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger (When I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' wit no broke *****(She steal me money)
Now I ain't sayin' she a gold digger (When I'm in need)
But she ain't messin' wit no broke *****(I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head get down (I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head get down (I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head get down (I gotta leave)
Get down girl, go 'head
So what's the song about that our kids are listening to? Hmm. I wonder. It's about a girl who likes to go after people with money, then the parts about the girl getting down is obviously about giving head (or giving oral sex for those of us not ebonically inclined). This is the kind of crap we let our kids listen to. As if that isn't bad enough, most of the lyrics are GRAMMATICALLY HORRIBLE. Who taught Kanye English? It certainly wasn't a university professor.
So the next time you agree about some "trash-talking aliens" in a movie for kids, remember first what we allow in society. Don't use a scapegoat. Face the real problems.
